Musketeer Monday Part One: Rebecca Garcia
Meet Mulvey Elementary School Assistant Principal Rebecca Garcia in this week's Musketeer Monday spotlight!
Mrs. Garcia began her career in the Central Islip School District in 2001 as an aide. By 2005, she was teaching bilingual kindergarten, and her career continued to flourish over the next 19 years. "I also taught pre-K, first, third, and fifth grades before becoming assistant principal at Mulvey Elementary two years ago," Mrs. Garcia said.
As assistant principal, Mrs. Garcia takes on a variety of responsibilities. "I communicate and collaborate with families about ongoing Mulvey events, facilitate conversations and solutions for student conflicts, lead mentoring groups for fifth- and sixth-grade girls, and conduct professional development sessions for teachers and staff on curriculum and data," she said. "I also work with staff to coordinate and execute schoolwide assemblies and provide translation services for bilingual families."
Mrs. Garcia finds her work within the Mulvey School community rewarding, fulfilling, and enriching. "One of the greatest rewards of my work is knowing that students feel accepted and loved," she said. "I enjoy having students walk into my office and ask, 'How are you doing?' or if they can 'spend lunch with me.'"
A 32-year resident and proud supporter of the Central Islip community, Mrs. Garcia is a graduate of the Central Islip High School Class of 2000. She also attended Mulligan Elementary School and Reed Middle School.
Mrs. Garcia and her "very supportive husband," Myner, have been married for 18 and a half years. "I am an extra proud mom to Nemiah, Josiah, Elijah, and Shiah," she said. All four of her children have attended Central Islip schools to some extent. In her free time, she prioritizes spending time with family. "Although I love watching a good show or movie on one of the streaming apps, family time is the best—whether grabbing something to eat or cooking a favorite meal together," she said.
Mrs. Garcia is the proud recipient of the 2024 Annual International Women's Day recognition, hosted by Suffolk County Legislator Sam Gonzalez.
Asked to share her thoughts about the Mulvey School community, Mrs. Garcia said: "As I transitioned to being assistant principal, the Mulvey family has been the definition of 'welcoming.' They have accepted me, and I am truly grateful for their support. I also deeply appreciate the dedication, love, and care our staff gives to every student at Mulvey and their families."
