Message from the Superintendent - September 2024
Dear Central Islip Families,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year, which promises to be an exciting time filled with new learning opportunities and growing experiences for our students.
Here in Central Islip Schools, the Board of Education, administration, faculty, and staff pride ourselves on educating the whole child. We strive to provide a solid foundation for your child's educational journey. With the expertise of our dedicated team of educators and staff, combined with your support and partnership, we firmly believe that every student will achieve their potential.
In preparation for this school year, our team of administrators, teachers, and staff worked throughout the summer to ensure all classrooms, facilities, and athletic fields were in order for all academic and athletic activities to commence.
Recognizing the importance of investing in the preservation of our school district facilities for our students today and for generations to follow, we have made a multitude of significant capital improvements to our buildings and grounds. These improvements include, but are not limited to: new student lockers and elevator modernizations at Central Islip High School and Reed Middle School; replacement of six high school tennis courts; renovations to the High School Little Theater, Wrestling Room, Pool Natatorium, and some athletic fields; roofing on the High School, Morrow Elementary, and Mulvey Elementary schools; cafeteria renovations and classroom floors at Cordello Elementary and Mulvey Elementary schools; interior ceiling and light replacements at Mulvey Elementary; renovated student bathrooms at Alfano Elementary; playground additions at Mulligan Elementary; and many other district-wide enhancements.
From an academic standpoint, wisdom to impart knowledge to our students, motivation to inspire young minds to explore and absorb that knowledge, adherence to proper conduct, and kindness in treating others with respect are the pillars that define who we are as a school district. We, as educators, encourage your participation in your children's school activities and invite you to join us in providing our students with the tools and skills they need to be successful in their goals and future endeavors. Monitor your children's homework, foster a love of reading, and they will be inspired in their desire to learn.
I would like to close my message to you with this quote from legendary author, poet, and activist Maya Angelou: "Any book that helps a child form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him."
Thank you sincerely for your continued partnership as we guide your children along their educational journey.
Warm regards,
Dr. Sharon A. Dungee
Superintendent of Schools
