Happy Friday! Mulligan conducts food pantry for families at pick-up
Every Friday, families can receive food donations from Chris Carlozzo, Central Islip School District social worker, and his staff by way of Island Harvest and other in-house donations from faculty and staff. Cars line up in the back parking lot of Charles A. Mulligan Elementary School to pick up their children and grab food.
Among items are fresh produce, canned goods, organic nuts and other healthy options. Families are sent a registration link weekly to give Carlozzo and his staff an estimate for how much food will be needed.
If families are unable to arrive on Friday afternoons when Carlozzo helps deliver to cars, they can also sign up with their designated school social worker or guidance counselor to pick up from the pantry at different times during the week.
“We’ve been doing this since November,” Carlozzo said. “We are fully operational every Friday afternoon. It’s a great feeling to be able to help our families this way.”
The student volunteers who assisted on Friday, March 21, were Valeria Mejia, Larry Berrios and Keila Pagan Feliciano.
